The 2023 Shark Tagging Scientific Days took place in Cap de Creus on June 17 and July 8.
This annual event was organized by the Associació Catalana per una Pesca Responsable (ACPR), in collaboration with Sotamar Shark Tour and under the scientific direction of the Barcelona Zoo Foundation, the Institut de Ciències del Mar (CSIC), and the University of Barcelona.
Over the two days, electronic, acoustic, and conventional tags were attached to a total of 12 blue sharks (Prionace glauca). Additionally, one shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus) was tagged. The tagging operations were led by Dr. Pablo Cermeño, a specialist in tuna and shark tagging, together with Dr. Bernat Hereu, head of the Catalan Tracking Network and an expert in acoustic fish tagging.
